I’m going to start off with the fact that we here now at the Chamber have converted from Quickbooks Desktop to Quickbooks Online in an effort to track our banking activity in a more efficient manner. What we thought would be a seamless effort, turned out to be, not one, not two, not even three, but a seven hour hold time of trying to get our payroll set up among other things. However, now that we’ve gotten that bear of a phone call behind us, may I just say for those of you who consider yourselves novice bookkeepers or small business owners, this is the program for you. Although, I still HIGHLY recommend the use of one of our local CPAs such as Mark Bogdan’s practice on Main Street, Gray & Gray Associates, or Whalen, Davey & Looney for tax purposes and other things that are out of our realm of our basic understanding.
Among the banking chaos that we found ourselves in as of late, the Chamber is gearing up for the Small Business Leadership Conference to take place next week, March 14th & March 15th at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. Members of the Chamber are welcome to network and learn from other area professionals on better business tactics and more. As a side note here, I strongly recommend members to attend this conference. It’s free of charge, breakfast and lunch is provided for your, and you can come and go as you please, picking and choosing what lectures, roundtables discussions, and exercises you’d like participate in. For more information or to register, you can click here.
The Chamber is also scheduling and planning this year’s events, including but not limited to the Food and Wine Soiree and our Annual Chamber Golf Tournament. With new blood on our board, we have been coming up with some new and unique ideas to revamp our traditional events as well as creating entirely new ones.
In between meetings, scheduling the meetings and so on, I find myself frozen to the bone in arenas across the county in the name of Louisville Minor Hockey for my little goalie wannabe. As cold as it may be however, I am looking forward to a parents/kids hockey game that will be taking place next week. Now, if you are an avid reader, you already know how competitive my son and I are with one another with little games such as UNO, one can imagine how we will be on the ice together. (Before any of you inquire however, the answer is no, I’ve never played hockey… I was a figure skater.) So, there will be quite a show I’m sure.
Lastly, as you all know, in addition with cleaning up the chamber and its archaic filing systems, I’ve been working on being a healthier version of me. Therefore, I gave in and opted to buy a Fitbit. I purchased the Fitbit Charge 2 in hopes that it would motivate me in my endeavors. I like it at first, even got different colored bands so that it may match my different outfits (no excuses to not wear it). However, I’ve found that its incessant reminders to get up in move when I obviously have a desk job, leaving me sedentary for the majority of my day has done nothing short of irritate the hell out of me for lack of a better way of putting it.
It is now off my wrist and sitting in my purse. Last known update on steps for the day….. 1,413.
