Beginning Guitar Classes at SLC Arts Council

Barb Heller is back at the St. Lawrence County Arts Council offering beginning guitar classes! Heller is known around the North Country for her folk singing and guitar playing as well as for her hosting of NCPR’s String Fever.
New guitar players ages 15 and up are invited to start with Heller’s Beginning Guitar classes, while experienced players may start prefer to start with the later Finger Style Guitar classes. In “Beginning Guitar,” students will learn the basics of how to read chord charts, basic strumming, and basic music theory for guitar. Beginning Guitar will meet on Thursdays, January 10th, 17th, and 24th from 7:30-8:30pm. In “Beginning Finger Style Guitar,” students who can already play a few chords and strum a little bit will learn how to finger pick their favorite songs. This second class will meet on Thursdays, January 31st, February 7th, and 14th from 7:30-8:30 pm.
These classes will meet in room 230 of Downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm Street, in Potsdam. Cost is $30 for either class, and students must have a guitar available for daily practice and for weekly lessons. Minimum age for these classes is 15 years.
